Cattle

South Poll

We started our South Poll herd in 2021. We love the durability of this breed and due to our regenerative approach we wanted something that had great calving ease. We are 100% grass fed and the ability for our cattle to keep their condition through drought and winter conditions is key. We our currently building our South Poll herd for seedstock. If you are interested in checking out the breed or interested in getting started please feel free to reach out to see what we have available!

Sheep

Katahdin

We started our Katahdin herd in 2021. We were looking for something that we could fit into our 100% grass fed regenerative plans that would have ease of maintenance. Katahdin are a hair sheep breed so there is no sheering needed on farm. We focus on building parasite resistance into our genetics. We are building our herd to continue to improve genetics and offer lamb to families that are looking for quality meat products.

Pigs

Mulefoot and Mangalitsa

Our pigs were the first animals to join us here at Brass Tacks Ranch. We added heritage breeds to our pasture raised swine operation due to their hardiness. We offer our pigs rotational grazing through most of the year so that they can do what pigs do! Our goal is to raise these breeds out slower than your conventional swine operations to allow for quality meat production. We see a more tender product that has a higher flavor profile.

Chickens

Multi-Breed Layers and Freedom Ranger Broilers

Our chickens add a lot of color and life to the ranch. We have a wide variety of free range laying hens. We collect eggs and sell them at the ranch when there is excess. You can soon find these in our farm stand at the end of the road.

For meat chickens, we choose non-GMO freedom rangers. All chicken is pasture rotated daily in order to allow them to do what chickens love! We strive to have breeds that lack the genetic makeup for fast growth which we feel decreases flavor.
